The classic Honey Mustard sauce has become universally popular due to the perfect blending of the two main ingredients.
The soft, sweet rich undertones of honey naturally tames the sharp tang of mustard to produce a flavor combination that works magically on bland foods like grilled chicken, BBQ pork or even shrimp.
There are as many different types of Honey Mustard sauces as there are honey and mustard. I prefer the Dijon style mustard in most of the recipes due to it's milder, wine-based flavor.
In fact, this particular version specifies Dijon however you can choose either the smooth or grainy blend.
This sauce lends itself as either a marinade, a cooking sauce or basted on after cooking as a glaze.
It's versatile enough to become a mustard BBQ sauce recipe with the addition of chilies or chipotle peppers.
I've now been using it when I make this Smoked Ham too.
Add some oil and it can become a salad dressing very easily, perfect for mixed greens.

Tip: This recipe provides the finishing flavor touches to this Grilled Honey Mustard Chicken.
It's important that you use it as a basting sauce only after you've moved the chicken to indirect heat.
If put on too early when the grilled chicken is being seared the sugars in the honey will flame and burn the chicken.
